  2. Dawn

That looks fabulous! I'm going to make it for my husband and kids on Valentine's Day. What size skillet did you use? Thanks!

This looks as yummy as it is pretty! I'd love to try this tomorrow, Sunday 02/12/17). What size iron skillet does it take? Since I do not have, nor can handle, the largest size, I'm hoping it can be baked in a regular pie dish. Thank you so much, Linda.

  4. Maggie

Looks so good! I'm anxious to make this for Valentine's Day for friends. Would you share the size of the cast iron skillet you used, please. I would guess 12".
    Thanks.

I am looking at your Valentine's Day Skillet Cookie. Perhaps a silly question, but what size is your cast iron skillet?
Seems like cooking time, etc. would depend on the size of your skillet

Bachelor dad and I want to make this for my kids for Valentine's day but every comment asks for skillet size and I don't see any answer.

I made this as per recipe in a 10" cast iron skillet...cooking time is nowhere near long enough. Even when toothpick comes out clean the whole thing is still raw dough.

FAQs

How do you know when a skillet cookie is done? ›

Bake for 28-35 minutes or until it looks just barely golden. Don't over-bake it, especially since it will continue to cook in the hot skillet when you take it out of the oven. Allow to cool in the skillet for at least 20-30 minutes before cutting.

Can you reheat a skillet cookie? ›

Yes, you most definitely can. However, as with any perishable food, we do recommend eating them fresh because nothing is better than fresh. After being frozen you can reheat them in the oven at 350 degrees for 2-3 minutes or microwave them for 45seconds-1 minute after thawing them to room temperature.

Why do my cookies get hard after they cool? ›

Cookies become hard when the moisture in them evaporates. This can be caused by leaving them out in the air for too long, baking them for too long, or storing them improperly. The lack of moisture makes the cookies hard and dry, which makes them difficult to enjoy.

What does an underbaked cookie look like? ›

Colour: Raw or undercooked cookies tend to have a pale appearance, lacking that golden or slightly browned hue that indicates they're fully baked.

How do you clean a cast iron cookie skillet? ›

Use a brush to loosen the debris from the pan. I like plastic bristles because they are stiff without gouging. Scrub, scrub, scrub to loosen all that baked and burned on gunk. For seriously baked on grime, you can put your skillet with kosher salt and water on the burner after your initial scrub.

When should you stop cooking cookies? ›

Chocolate chip cookies are done when they have a firm golden edge or bottom and appear slightly set on top. If the edges become dark brown, they are overbaked. If edges aren't golden and tops are soft and shiny, bake a little longer.

Should you put cooked cookies in the fridge? ›

Bakery or homemade cookies can be stored at room temperature two to three weeks or two months in the refrigerator. Cookies retain their quality when stored in the freezer for eight to 12 months. Moist bars, such as cheesecake and lemon bars, can be refrigerated for seven days.

How long should cookies sit on pan? ›

For chewy cookies, allow them to cool on the baking sheet for 3 to 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. For crispier cookies, let cookies cool for one minute on the baking sheet before transferring to a cooling rack.

When should cookies be removed from the pan? ›

I remove my cookies from the pan when they are cool enough to handle, and let them continue cooling on a wire rack, which helps them stay crispy.

How do you know when PB cookies are done? ›

Unlike many other cookies, peanut butter biscuits only fully harden once they've been removed from the oven. Here's how to tell when peanut butter cookies are done: The tops of the cookies are a uniform light brown. They're soft to the touch but not moist or mushy.
