I am a poet and a lover of quiet. Here is a great poem by just announced MacArthur Genius grant winner Ada Limon. The Quiet MachineWritten and read byAda LimónI’m learning so many different ways to be quiet. There’s how I standin the lawn, that’s one way. There’s also how I stand in the fieldacross from the street, that’s another way because I’m farther frompeople and therefore more likely to be alone. There’s how I don’tanswer the phone, and how I sometimes like to lie down on thefloor of the kitchen and pretend I’m not home when people knock. There’s daytime silent when I stare and nighttime silent when Ido things. There’s shower silent and bath silent and California silentand Kentucky silent and car silent. And then there’s the silence thatcomes back a million times bigger than me, sneaks into my bonesand wails and wails and wails until I can’t be quiet anymore. That’s how this machine works.

This for love of the written word.In the Pantheon of Poets, that of the written word; are many wonderful, gifted poets-writers of all kinds who having never been read will be forever lost to the world. To write, to dream, to conjure up, to imagine, to set forth vivid, thoughtful, everlasting words which ring in the souls of men has changed the world forever. Human expression in whatever form it is presented is as ancient as man. As the quality, splendor and acuity of words well written declines, so follows the setback of mankind back into a state of cultural chaos from which it may never recover. Please read Joanie Adams write.https://lnkd.in/ghX6hTTh

YOU and I ARE GOING TO DIE. The real question is how well we live between now and our due date. This author explores some of the silliness that has infected our culture lately, when too-rich billionaire-bros make fools of themselves trying to outsmart time. And what you can I can do without spending two million a year and get much the same outcome.https://lnkd.in/g2pbXPSr

📗 | I just live from day to dayUnfortunately, due to other obligations, the STORYBOOK paper 🗞 (my blog page dedicated to tapping into conversations encompassing lifestyle, poetry, entertainment, business and politics) has been on a brief hiatus. Nevertheless, last week I had the opportunity to upload the second instalment of Bliss's Corner called 'I just live from day to day'.📗 | What is Bliss's Corner?Bliss's Corner is a brand-new component of the STORYBOOK paper, which aims to provide readers with amazing poetry by the incredibly talented writer Bliss! The latest addition to Bliss's Corner is the beautifully crafted poem titled 'I just live from day to day'. The poem is loosely based on Richard Wright's seminal work 'Native Son' and delves into themes of systemic injustice, societal conditioning, and the harrowing realities faced by marginalized individuals within American society. To read the latest edition of the STORYBOOK paper please be sure to click the link below and subscribe to the blog for more independently written content. Furthermore, if you are a writer and are looking for more platforms to proliferate your literary art please be sure to message me. At the STORYBOOK paper, we are actively seeking for more writers, of all kinds, to join the platform. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dfJ2g6sNUntil next time 👋 #poetry #independentwriter #blog #blogger

This is quite simply one of the best and most mind-blowing books I’ve ever read. If you are interested in the balance between the right to free speech and the right to be free from assaultive / hate speech, it is the bible. Almost every page is underlined and annotated. I bore people with screenshots. It’s amazing. Get it in your brain! ID: a well thumbed copy of “Words that wound: critical race theory, assaultive speech and the first amendment” by Mari Matsuds, Charles R Lawrence III, Richard Delgado and Kimberlè Williams Crenshaw.

"Stuff everywhere, every time. Anything else is what happens to stuff. Properties, transformations, relations. From Aristotle onwards, the problem of Being is the problem of stuff: substance, essence, thing-hood. Ontology is a topology of stuff as entities, existent or not existent, whose properties are preserved under continuous changes.Yet stuff is what it is only because it has the properties that it does, the relations it entertains, the functions it exercises. Wittgenstein remarked that there is no artichoke left once you remove all leave" ... "That I cannot, for the life of me, understand how anybody can possibly believe that we have some direct access to the nature of anything that is not formatted by some level of abstraction. In other words, I cannot understand how anybody can disagree with Kant’s transcendental turn. We know what we construct, and the construction is very robust and reliable, but it does not tell us about the nature of the source. To put it more metaphorically, the world provides the data, but we generate the information from the data, and the information is not a copy or a mirror image of the source of the data. We have no direct epistemic access to the noumenon, we know only the phenomena. And so, from within an informational realist position (my translation of Kant), the question of Being, the ontological question, becomes a question about the most reasonable way of conceptualizing a system we can know only through our models"Great piece out from Luciano, he argues that understanding the world requires considering how entities are related and interconnected rather than focusing on their properties.

I AM A LANGUAGE, WORD, AND CONTEXT FREEK!!!Whenever I read an article, I always have a dictionary, thesaurus, and google by my side. If I run into words I have never seen before I always stop and look up the meaning and learn the words and the context in which they are used in the article/paper.EXAMPLE:This is from an Article in the September 2023 VOGUE. It is written by Zing Tsjeng. The article is about the Author Zadie Smith - a British Author."Smith - now 47, having spent the last few decades briskly dispensing of the condescending literary 'ingenue' label that attached itself, 'remora-like' in the wake of her 2000 debut, "WHITE TEETH" - is in adventure mode."I looked up 'ingenue' and 'remora-like' and discovered the context in which they were used to describe the subject.Interesting - Remora are fish that attach themselves to the bigger fish and wanders through that life. Remora-like is DESCRIBING HOW the word 'ingenue' attached itself to Zadie.I know "linguistisc impoverishment" exists and I personally endeavour to shrink my own. Words are Knowledge! That knowledge grows Understanding and that leads to kindness among those who are not us.So....reading, understanding, and knowing the context is up to each of us in order to improve our understanding of the literature that we consume.

Two stories I have written have been published! Both are microfiction, which is another way of saying: extremely short stories. The first, “Hotdog”, was published yesterday on the website, 50-Word Stories. As you can probably guess, it’s 50 words long. You can read it here: https://lnkd.in/evmPKVQg. The second, “The Russian Reversal”, was published today on the website, 101 Words. Again, no guesses for how long it is. You can read it here: https://lnkd.in/e5pHVJUZ.

The inability to talk to ET is a major stumbling block to science, technology, and political lobbying for Disclosure. In her book, How to Talk to an Alien, Nancy du Tertre, an attorney, psychic, healer, and remote viewer, focuses on alien language and speech. If ET speaks, how do they talk to us? What do they use to make sounds of speech? Can They Read Our Minds? What Are They Trying to Tell Us?Read more in our Exoconscious Humans Substackhttps://lnkd.in/gxxcYqjP

From the acclaimed author of The Lovers, a one-of-a-kind novel about fake news, memory, and how truth gives way to fiction. A Time Outside This Time is a brilliant meditation on life in a post-truth era. Balancing the public and private, the imagined and the real, Amitava Kumar ushers us across time and space in the name of art and humanity alike, capturing the chaos and dishonesty of the present with intelligence, beauty, and an eye for the uncanny.
